WHAT ARE THE CANADA GREENER HOME GRANTS USED FOR?

Studies have shown that residential homes make up to 18% of greenhouse gas emissions. To curb the gas emissions and make homes more energy efficient, the Government of Canada will reimburse homeowners for upgrading their existing windows and doors to reduce their carbon footprint. Become part of the Greener Home Initiative and the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program to preserve the environment while you benefit by saving on energy bills and overall costs with upgraded windows and doors.

HOW WILL THE HOME EFFICIENCY REBATE PROGRAM WORK?

The application process begins with an EnerGuide evaluation performed by an HER+-approved Registered Energy Advisor to identify retrofit upgrades that can increase energy efficiency and climate change resilience. The advisor will provide a report outlining approved upgrades, which serves as the foundation for your renovation plan. Please note that only retrofits recommended by the energy advisor are eligible for the Home Efficiency Rebate Plus program.

While the work is getting done, ensure to keep all paid-in-full invoices and receipts to submit after the completion of the retrofits. You have until 2027 to finish the process. Depending on the chosen renovation, grants can cover anywhere from $175 to $10,000.

After the window replacement project is completed, a second EnerGuide evaluation will be conducted to show the updated energy rating and savings. The Home Energy Rebate Plus program will reimburse up to $600 for these evaluations.

FAQ

Can I get enhanced rebates if I already applied for CGHG?

If you already started an application with Enbridge Gas, you might only be eligible for the program if your assessment takes place before January 1, 2023, the HER+ program’s initial date. Your Registered Energy Advisor can assist you with this.

Can I get rebates if I have already started renovations in my house?

The HER+ program was created for homeowners who complete a pre-retrofit assessment. Therefore, prior upgrades will not be eligible for the Home Efficiency Rebate or the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
