In recent years, energy efficiency has become more than a buzzword, it has become a staple of modern living. Whether it is energy-efficient windows or appliances, insulation, heat pumps or solar panels, they all contribute to a greener Ontario and save you money on your energy bills.
The Government of Ontario has announced 14 new energy-efficiency programs, which include the Home Renovation Savings Program. This initiative is part of a $10.9 billion investment in energy-efficient home improvements. Save on Energy and Enbridge have partnered up to make these programs a reality, launching them to help Ontarians improve home efficiency and comfort.
What is the Home Renovation Savings Program?
Over the last few years, the government of Ontario has introduced several programs and initiatives, such as the GreenON program or the Home Efficiency Rebate, in an effort to reduce household energy costs and boost environmental sustainability.
The Home Renovation Savings Program is a new program launched to make energy-efficient upgrades more accessible and affordable for homeowners across Ontario, covering a wide range of different upgrades. These rebates cover up to 30% of eligible upgrade costs, making them a significant advantage to eco-conscious homeowners.
There are several ways to save!
For one, to receive your rebates, you can start with a home energy assessment and then complete two or more eligible upgrades as below:
Home energy assessment – Get $600 back
Windows and doors – Get $100 back on each qualified window and door
Insulation – Up to $8,900
Air sealing – Up to $250
Heat pump water heaters – Get $500 back on qualified heat pump water heaters
Note: Windows, doors and heat pump water heaters must be an ENERGY STAR® certified model.
If you don’t want to go through the home energy assessment, you can receive the following rebates on eligible energy-efficiency
upgrades:
Cold climate air source heat pump – Up to $7,500
Ground source heat pump – Up to $12,000
Smart thermostat – Get $75
Solar panels and battery storage – Up to $10,000
Note: The heat pump you choose must be on Natural Resources Canada’s qualified products list.
Eligible Window & Door Upgrades Under the New Program
As part of the Home Renovation Savings Program, the Government of Ontario will be offering $100 rebates per new window and door and $600 for a home energy assessment starting on January 28, 2025.
The federal Canada Greener Homes Loan rebate is an additional program that is an interest-free $40,000 loan issued by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), payable over a 10-year period.
The Importance of Energy-Efficient Windows & Doors
When it comes to making your home more comfortable and cost-efficient, energy-efficient windows and doors are a game-changer. They’re designed to keep your indoor spaces cozy in the winter and refreshingly cool in the summer—all while helping you save on energy costs. With rising utility bills and a growing focus on sustainability, upgrading to energy-efficient options isn’t just a smart choice for your wallet—it’s also a step toward a greener future.
What makes these windows and doors so effective? It’s all in the design. Features like Low-E coatings, double or triple glazing, and insulated frames work together to minimize heat transfer. That means your home stays at a consistent temperature without overworking your heating or cooling systems. The result? Lower energy bills and less strain on your HVAC system, making your home both energy-efficient and budget-friendly over the long haul.
But the benefits go beyond energy savings. Energy-efficient windows and doors make your home more comfortable and enjoyable to live in. They help reduce drafts, cut down on condensation, and even provide better noise insulation—great news if your home is in a noisy area. Plus, they add a modern touch to your space, combining functionality with style.
And let’s not forget the value they bring to your property. Homebuyers are increasingly looking for energy-saving features, and having these upgrades can make your home stand out in a competitive market. It’s a smart investment that benefits you now with lower energy costs and adds appeal for potential buyers down the line. If you’ve been considering an upgrade, there’s no better time to take the leap.
